Over the last one week, God had given me lot of opportunities to serve Him in various ways (preaching, teaching, singing etc) among various age-groups of people. It was indeed a great privilege to become a small part in the great work of the Kingdom of God. I thank God for considering me worthy in His great mission on earth.
During this time, I could travel to very far-off places, in car, in bike etc. I praise God for keeping me safe. It is the Lord’s angels who guard us all the time. Thank you Jesus
Few of the meetings were totally unplanned. I was informed at the very last moment. Since I am also doing a secular job, I had to make some quick arrangements to get myself available for those meetings.
Sometimes I found it difficult to sacrifice some of my comforts, rest etc . But the Lord reminded me about how a servant of the Lord must be readily available for His work any time anywhere!
Then I had no complaints. I accepted that divine call joyfully. During those moments, the Lord taught me a very important lesson, which I would like to share with you today
Removing the wrong dependencies of our life and learn to trust in God and in God alone. Read more.
1. Dependency on your money
Let me ask you a simple question. You want to buy a decent smart phone. What will be the first thing you will think about?
Let me guess for you, It is your bank balance, right?
When we first think about buying something, say, a Gadget, a dress or sandals, the first thing which comes to our mind is Money! When we start off to place, we think about having enough money with us.
But the Lord taught me
Never put your trust in money or wealth or possessions.
(Trust means the firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something)
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. Phil 4: 19
Few years ago, I desired to buy a guitar for myself. I checked my bank account to see how much money was left in it. (That shows my dependency on my bank balance). I realized that I had not sufficient enough of money to buy one. Then I thought of availing a personal loan (See, this is how our dependency on money leads us to financial traps), Then the Lord reminded me, that I should first pray to God. (Thus proving my dependency is on God and not on bank balance)
So I prayed to the Lord for a guitar. And you know what?
Through my uncle, God gave me a brand new guitar, completely free of cost, when he came to visit us. It is when we learn to trust in God (and in God alone), we start to see the mighty hand of God.
How much dependent are you on money? Are you worried about not having enough money to buy something you are in need of? Are you worried about marriage due to lack of money? Are you worried about not having a good job? Are you worried about your future because of the lack of money?
If yes, it is high time to reconsider your dependency factor. Break every other dependencies today and start trusting God for all your needs.
I am not saying that you should not use money, but my point here is, that your first and foremost trust must be upon God. Then you will truly experience for yourself on how great God is!
2. Dependency on your Knowledge
As I went to preach to many places, during the last week, every time I was tempted to put my confidence in my knowledge of the Bible, stories or examples.
But the Lord taught me
Never put your trust or confidence in the ‘head-knowledge’ that you have.
Instead let your trust be upon the Holy Spirit of God!
Yes, Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit is always an available and ready Teacher speaking and teaching through us
for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say (Luke 12: 12)
Again in another portion, Jesus gives us a promise
the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (John 14: 26)
Yes, our trust should be completely on the Holy Spirit.
Here is the reason. When we trust in our human confidence, we tend to miss out the guidance and direction from the Holy Spirit. Hence we need to be very sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit, as we prepare ourselves to preach or to teach
Usually I pray this prayer more often,
Holy Spirit, please help me, please teach me, please speak to me…
I am not saying, that you should not prepare notes or be lazy, but your ultimate confidence should be purely on the help of the Holy Spirit
3. Dependency on other People
When we think about doing something, or planning for some great project which we require the help of people, say for example, organizing an event, or doing a team work, we quickly tend to think about the people around us who are good at it. Slowly we shift our focus to those very people.
For example, when you are asked to coordinate an event like wedding, or a party or a feast, you think about the best catering service available, or you may think about your friend who has immense experience in organizing such an event, or you may even think about assigning the task to someone else.
OR When you are about a start a challenging project in your team, you may think about the highly skilled and experienced people in your team
That is where we are going wrong. We are putting our dependency on people. Our first and foremost dependency must be on God and not on people.
It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. Psalms 118: 8
It is when you learn to trust in God, that you develop your faith in God. A point may come in your life, when all the people whom you have trusted may desert you, but you can be rest assured that God will never leave you nor forsake you.
Even if my father and mother abandon me, the LORD will take care of me. Psalms 27: 10
Let us be wise enough not to put our complete trust in our family or friends or relatives or colleagues, or anyone who is found to be very faithful. Let us put our complete trust in God

4. Dependency on your own-self
When you are assigned a task, you may think, Yeah, I am already good at it. I can do it well. I need no help from anyone.
That’s a true sign of dependency on yourself. It is good to have self-confidence, but God-confidence is much more required. God-confidence should out-beat self-confidence.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight Prov 3: 5,6
This simple practice of trusting God in even the small matters of life will make you more dependent on God, and you will enjoy the great help and privilege offered by God. You will start appreciating and thanking God for even the small things He is doing in your life. It will make you grateful to God and the people around you. When you learn to trust in God, you are trusting in the most powerful Person in the whole universe. You will never be shaken. You will stand strong, no matter who stands against you.
Let’s break off every wrong dependency we have built in our mind over these years, and start putting our simple and genuine confidence in God, and in God alone.
But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. Jer 17: 7
Father Lord. In Jesus’ Name I come to You. Today, I learned that putting trust in anything/anyone other than you is not wise. Please help me to put my complete trust and confidence in You and in You alone. Please help me Lord. Amen
