Father seeks True worshipers
In the previous sessions, we learned about two important truths. We need to have a heart that thirsts for God and seeks for God. Also we need to spend quality time in God’s presence and we need to practice God’s presence inorder to enjoy the close walk with God.
Here, in this session, let’s look a little deeper into the heart of God. Jesus reveals the heart of the Father.
23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4, NKJV
Here, we see the Father seeking something – seeking people who truly worship God. Do you sense that desire in the Father? If you want to enjoy a close walk with God, you need to ensure that you worship the Father in spirit and truth. Such a kind of worship is called True Worship. Father seeks true worshipers. How do you worship? What all things you do while you worship God? What is the correct way of worshiping God?
Worship in spirit and in truth
God is Spirit, and when we worship God, we need to worship from our spirit. Worship needs to come from within. Also it should be in truth. There shouldn’t be any kind of hypocrisy. It should be sincere and genuine. It should be based on the Word of God, which is the truth. Father seeks such to worship Him.
Many times, God is not pleased with our worship because it doesn’t come from within, but it is mostly mere external or outward reverence, which God hates.
What is Worship?
Some say, it is thanksgiving, it is praise, it is giving God the glory, or singing sings etc. Actually worship is none of these. These are all expressing yourself as you worship God. Then, what do you mean by worship?
The meaning of the New Testament Greek word most often translated “worship” (proskuneo) is “to fall down before” or “bow down before.” Worship is a state (an attitude) of spirit. Since it’s an internal, individual action, it could/should be done most of the time (or all the time) in our lives, regardless of place or situation.
Worship is total surrender towards God.
How to worship God?
When you truly acknowledge the greatness of God, automatically your knees will bow and your tongue shall confess that Jesus is God Almighty. That is when your heart overflows with great and intense reverence towards God and you start thanking, praising or singing.
When you surrender your life totally unto God, in all your ways, thoughts and deeds, you are actually worshiping. It is actually a living sacrifice on the altar.
Inorder to enjoy close walk with God, we need to spend time in God’s presence worshiping God. How is it possible? How should we worship God.
First step is to acknowledge the greatness of God. This knowledge will help us give Him the due respect and reverence.
Second step is to find personal time, in the presence of God and worship Him on a regular basis. You can sing songs or start worshiping God by praising. But remember to concentrate fully on God and with your spirit and heart bow before God Almighty. If possible, kneel down and fall before God in your room and practice worshiping God. Once you do this on a regular basis, you will enjoy worshiping God and then you will be able to concentrate completely on God, as you worship in public places and church.
Then the Father will be pleased and our worship will be accepted as true worship.
Disciples worshiped Jesus
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Matt 28, NKJV
Worship God alone!
8 Now I, John, saw and heard these things. And when I heard and saw, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel who showed me these things. 9 Then he said to me, “See that you do not do that. For I am your fellow servant, and of your brethren the prophets, and of those who keep the words of this book. Worship God.” Rev 22, NKJV
Devil tempted Jesus to worship him
8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you,[d] Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’” 11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.
God is much pleased with true worshipers
Father seeks true worshipers. Are we willing to change the way we worship? When we truly acknowledge the greatness of God, our life will change. This is what happened to Zachaeus. When he met Jesus, his attitude changed. He repented of his sins and was willing to repay upto 4 times to people whom he cheated. This is true repentance. If we truly worship God, we will grow more close to God and our ungodly elements starts going away.
When we go to church to attend fellowship, our focus should be to worship God with other disciples.
When we truly worship God, we will experience God’s presence in a greater level. It all starts in your private room with God. Then, you will start to experience and witness God’s power in every area of your life.
God hates empty worship. What is vain/empty worship?
‘These people draw near to Me with their mouth,
And[e] honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.
9 And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ” Matt 15: 8, 9 NKJV
If your heart is not in complete devotion to God, no matter how well you sing praises to God, God will never be pleased. God hates worshiping with mere outward expressions. God loves people who genuinely and sincerely express their reverence to God. It doesn’t matter the perfection of your words or actions, but it depends on the condition of your heart.
Will you surrender your life to Jesus in total reverence to God?
Father is looking down from heaven on such people. Are you one of them? If yes, this is the time, to surrender once more into God’s hand. Tell God, ‘Lord, I am nothing. I bow before you. I acknowledge that you are my God and you are Almighty. There is none like you. I respect You and i adore You. I Love You. Make me whole. Help me to worship You in truth and in spirit. Help me get rid of all hypocrisy and acting. In Jesus’ Name. Amen’
Revelation of Jesus motivates us to worship Him
When God is revealed to us, we will worship God. When we come to know more about God, we acknowledge His greatness and we will be quick to bow our knees towards Him. The more personal revelation we get of God, the more surrendering we will be towards God. Here are few examples
51 Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, 53 and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen. Luke 24, NKJV
Worship followed by great joy, and praising God.
9 And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying,“Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him. Matt 28, NKJV
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. Rev 1, NKJV
8 Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying: Rev 5, NKJV
Do you want a greater revelation of God? Seek His face and His word. And your knees will bow down before Him.
9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil 2, NKJV
A greater revelation helps us to worship God in greater depth. Let God reveal Himself to us more! Amen.
