God loves our praises
In order to have a close walk with God, we need to have a heart that always praises God. God loves our praises. When we praise God, we acknowledge His greatness, for He is great and worthy to be praised. We are giving His due respect. Praises should come out of deep and intimate relationship with God. A heart that overflows with praises and thanksgiving. This is a secret to have a close fellowship with God.
37 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying: “ ‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!’ Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” 39 And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” 40 But He answered and said to them, “I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out.” Luke 19, NKJV
In the above portion, we read about the whole multitude of disciples of Jesus, praising and celebrating Jesus. Infact Jesus loved the way the worshiped Jesus, but the Pharisees or the so-called religious leaders did not like it.
Even if the people around us doesn’t seem to be happy with the way we praise God, it really doesn’t matter as long as Jesus is pleased. So we praise God to please God. Jesus absolutely loves our praises. Even if we thank God for a small thing He did for us, it brings great happiness to His face. Would you like to make His face smile? Yes, start thanking God for everything and appreciate God for His great works.
Praise and Worship
When we hear this phrase ‘Praise and Worship’, we think about the musical programs happening in the church. But the real worship is all about the heart. If our hearts are in God’s presence trying to please Him, then all the acts we do, to please Him, ie singing, clapping, jumping etc will bring meaning to the worship. So praises without genuine worship is empty worship.
When we come to church for a fellowship, the music and the other settings may distract us. Therefore, we need to consciously put effort to bring our whole mind, spirit and body in complete surrender and devotion to Christ. That’s when God is really pleased with our worship and praise. He watches over hearts than our outward acts.
In everything give thanks
18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. I Thess 5, NKJV
This is the will of God for you, ie to give thanks for ALL the things happening in your life- good or bad. Yes, we need to practice this. Start thanking God for all the things. The hymn, “Count your blessings and name them one by one” is a good one to start with”
An attitude of gratitude is a great asset. In that case, our God will be much pleased with us. Even for the bad things which are happening in our lives, we need to give thanks unto the Lord. Will you do it?
Speak to one another in psalms/hymns/spiritual songs
18 …be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,21 submitting to one another in the fear of God. Eph 5, NKJV
Whenever you meet together, start singing spiritual songs and hymns, making melody in your hearts to the Lord. What a joyful experience, when the disciples of Jesus meet together and praises Jesus. God absolutely loves it. This is something which we can start practicing. Share the testimonies and sing songs unto the Lord.
Sing new psalms
Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm, has a teaching, has a tongue, has a revelation, has an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. I Cor 14: 26, NKJV
When God does a good thing in your life, why don’t you try making a song with your own lyrics and dedicate to the Lord. Yes, that is called a psalm. In the Bible, we have lot of psalms written by God’s people. These come out of a worshiping heart. These are songs of praises to the Lord. Have you tried this before?
Song of Miriam after crossing the red sea
20 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took the timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.21 And Miriam answered them: “Sing to the Lord, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!”
Identifying God’s work in our life and praising God is a wonderful experience.
Song of Hannah
And Hannah prayed and said:
“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
My horn[a] is exalted in the Lord.
I smile at my enemies,
Because I rejoice in Your salvation. I Sam 2: 1, NKJV
Hannah praised God with these beautiful lyrics when she got her prayer answered.
Song of Mary when she got conceived with Jesus
46 And Mary said:
“My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
And the list goes on. People who are close with God will automatically praise God, because they know how good God is!
Reason for thanking God
Even for the bad things happening in our lives, we need to thank God, because God makes all things for our good.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
So, if all things will work together for good, then why not we praise God for everything? We need to trust God for this. He is faithful. Even the hairs of our head are numbered. God knows all our details. Nothing happens without His knowledge. Then we have great reason to thank God, because He makes all things for our good. Hallelujah.
