For a child of God, the most disturbing moment in his life, is when he knows that He has done something wrong in the sight of God, and feels guilty.
Most of the time, we tend to run away from God, assuming He would be angry with us. And we keep walking away form God, running away from God, avoiding God by not going to His presence at all.
We stop praying thinking, ” Oh! God wouldn’t want to hear my prayer, because I have done something wrong”. We stop worshipping God wondering, “Oh, will He accept me worship?” We stop attending prayer meetings, fearing “Oh, I might have to act holy infront of others, I am really unholy”
Are you in this state of guilt cycle, unable to come out, even though you really want to come back to that first state of holiness and the experience of joy of the Holy Spirit?
Trust me, IT IS POSSIBLE TO COME BACK. Let me add on.
It is possible to come back to a more powerful and intimate love relationship with your loving Father in Heaven.
What should I do? How do I start? Where should I go?
You can’t really help yourself to come back to God, and that’s why you really need God’s help.
Oh! God must be angry with me. How will I come back to God? Will He not punish me?
Let me assure you! When you feel like running away from God, just run towards God and fall at His feet and cry, ask for mercy. Do you think that God is too cruel to accept you back? No, never!
In the Bible, you see a loving Father, waiting to receive his son, who has angrily left the home.
“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. “The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ “But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
This is the same God you have!
He hasn’t forsaken you.
He hasn’t started hating you.
He hasn’t stopped loving you.
He hasn’t yet given up on you.
He hasn’t yet stopped waiting for you.
He is just eagerly waiting for you to COME BACK.
Please come back running to your loving Father.
You can run away from the presence of God, but you can’t really run away from the love of God
So, what should I do?
Admit the fact that you have gone wrong! That’s the first step. No more lame excuses and explanations on why you did that or what made you do that? That’s not going to work out. God knows you very well.
Confess it before God, and pour out your feelings, thoughts and anxieties to Him.
Trust in God’s forgiveness. He is ever-loving, ever merciful and ever forgiving.
There is a beautiful verse in the Bible which describes how God deals with us when we believe in Him.
It’s about how Abraham was accepted in the sight of God
Was it because of his good deeds that God accepted him? If so, then he would have something to boast about. But from God’s point of view Abraham had no basis at all for pride. For the Scriptures tell us Abraham believed God, and that is why God canceled his sins and declared him “not guilty.” (Romans 4: 2-3)
I liked that term, God declaring us, “NOT GUILTY”
What a powerful God we have! Sometimes we declare ourselves GUILTY and run away from God. But what is needed is this: Go back running towards God trusting Him, and He will declare us “NOT GUILTY”.
Oh my God!
But didn’t he earn his right to heaven by all the good things he did? No, for being saved is a gift; if a person could earn it by being good, then it wouldn’t be free—but it is! It is given to those who do not work for it. For God declares sinners to be good in his sight if they have faith in Christ to save them from God’s wrath (Romans 4: 4-5)
Yes, the moment you trust in Christ to save you, you are already declared “NOT GUILTY”
By heart this verse! and remind yourselves, I am declared “NOT GUILTY” by the Supreme Almighty Judge of the Universe.
And you know what? The greatest JOY in this universe is to be declared by God, “I AM NOT GUILTY”
King David spoke of this, describing the happiness of an undeserving sinner who is declared “not guilty” by God. “Blessed and to be envied,” he said, “are those whose sins are forgiven and put out of sight. Yes, what joy there is for anyone whose sins are no longer counted against him by the Lord.” (Romans 4: 6-8)
Now, what are you waiting for? Run towards God. Nothing to worry or fear. He is waiting for you.
One more verse from the Bible for your assurance
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you (James 4: 7,8)
