Every day, perhaps every hour we may come across a crossroad in our lives, where we are challenged to take a decision. Our mind tells us to do something, friends may tell something else, Bible may say something.
Often we are confused on which path to take.
Here comes the choice. The counsel you receive may belong to any of these.
- One which comes from above
- The other which comes from beneath
Let me call the first one as Divine Wisdom, and the other one Worldly Wisdom.
How do you know which one to choose? Which one really works? Which one is better? By looking at the name, you might say, it is Divine Wisdom which is better. Obviously! But how do we know which is divine and which is worldly?
Let me give you a scenario: You did some great work at your workplace. And your smart colleague cleverly involved his name as well in your work and partook your appreciation. You really felt bad about it.
Now, comes your so-called wise friend to help you.
He says: Bro, this is your chance to show your smartness. Come on! Do this and do that, and he will learn a lesson!
Another idea comes to your mind: Just to let it go! And continue with your good work.
Read these few verses from the Bible which says about how to distinguish between wisdom from above and wisdom from beneath
But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. (James 3:14-18)
Now tell me which one to choose?
This is how you should distinguish divine wisdom from worldly wisdom
If that decision comes from bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, that wisdom is clearly earthly, unspiritual, demonic. End result would be disorder and every evil practice. Stay away from this sort of wisdom
On the contrary, if your decision is based on divine wisdom, the end will be much pleasant. This wisdom is always pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Peacemakers will choose the second one. Choice is yours!
Father of all wisdom. Fill my little brain, heart and mind with Your Wisdom. I seek it. I love it. Even when I don’t understand the logic of you Wisdom, help me to blindly go by it, trusting You. Thank you Jesus. Amen
