Step Boldly Into Your Calling: Overcoming 3 Doubts That Hold You Back

It is God who called you. Never doubt!

The calling is great. Not many are called. You are one of the chosen ones.

What are you waiting for? It’s high time to step in.

3 Common Doubts about God’s Calling

Some of us know we are called, but certain doubts hold us back. Here are three common doubts about God’s calling.

Doubt #1: I’m not sure if God has “called” me!

The very reason you’re thinking about this is because you’ve heard God’s call. You’re reading this article not by chance—it’s because the Lord loves you and wants to clear your doubt.

You can trust the Lord’s Word.

The Bible says:

1 Peter 2:9 (NIV):
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

God called you out of darkness, meaning you are saved.

You are saved because God called you. The Holy Spirit worked in you, convicted you (John 16:8), and enabled you to say, “Jesus is Lord” (1 Corinthians 12:3).

So, be encouraged—God has called you! Cast all doubts and fears at His feet and respond to His call.

Say, “Lord, here I am!” — just as Samuel did (1 Samuel 3:4), Paul did (Acts 9:6), and Isaiah did (Isaiah 6:8).

Doubt #2: I’m not sure if I heard God right!

Sometimes, as we pursue God’s call, doubts creep in during low moments. Our mind wanders, and Satan sows doubts in our heart, causing us to question His call or doubt His voice.

John the Baptist was a powerful prophet. Jesus Himself said he was the greatest of all prophets (Matthew 11:11). John is the one who introduced Jesus to the people, witnessed the Holy Spirit descending on Him, and baptized Him.

But when he was shut in prison (for speaking the truth), he sent messengers to Jesus, asking, “Are you the One who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” (Luke 7:19).

Look how much he doubted the voice he once proclaimed! His voice had once echoed loudly in the desert about Jesus, but in a low state, he wavered. Read more: Confused about the will of God? Here is the key!

This happened to spiritual legends, and it’s a lesson for us.

As we pursue God’s call, there might be times when we may feel low. But the Lord’s call never changes. His Word never changes.

Matthew 24:35 (NIV):
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

Dear brother or sister, even when you don’t feel it, rest assured—the God who called you is real. Feelings come and go, but His call remains unchanging!

Take courage. Step in faith.

Doubt #3: I’m not sure if “I” am the one!

Doubting your self!.

When God called Moses, he highlighted his weaknesses and incapabilities, saying:

Exodus 4:10 (NIV):
“Pardon your servant, Lord. I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech and tongue.

God was patient with Moses, explaining about His own Self (God)

Exodus 4:11-12 (NIV):
“The Lord said to him, ‘Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.’”

God promised to help Moses and teach what to say, but Moses still hesitated, saying, “Please send someone else” (Exodus 4:13).

Remember what God told Paul?

2 Corinthians 12:9 (NKJV)
And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.

The same God lives in us and promises to teach us:

Luke 12:12 (NIV):
“For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

What more do we need?

God assures us He will help us in our weakness, be with us, teach us, and strengthen us.

Let’s not doubt God or His calling. Let’s Stop making excuses and be bold enough to take that first step.

Philippians 4:13 (NKJV):
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

What’s holding you back?

Let’s Pray

Father, thank You for calling me. Forgive my doubts. Increase my faith. Help me step in. Be with me in my weakness, and I know You will strengthen me. I trust You. Here I am, Lord, please use me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
