Confused about the will of God? Here is the key!
Confused? How to discern the will of God?
Even John the Baptist was confused at one point of time. He sent two of His disciples to ask the Lord Jesus
“Are you the One who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” Luke 7: 19
In other words, John was in a doubt whether Jesus was really the Promised Messiah or not.
Remember, John the Baptist, was one of the prophets who once was strongly convinced that God was the One who sent him to baptise. #1 He had no doubt about the purpose in life.
John says
“And I myself did not know him, but the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit” John 1: 33
Note the word “told me”. Therefore John had once heard the voice of God. #2 John used to speak to God like a friend talking to a friend
Also, John was the one who introduced Jesus to his own disciples. #3 John was 100% convinced that Jesus was the One.
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! John 1: 29
#4 John had literally heard the audible voice of God, the Father
And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matt 3: 17)
But now what happened?
John was really confused!
One who has once heard the voice of God, one who has once seen the heavens open and the Spirit descending on Jesus, the one who has once literally heard the voice of the Father saying, “He is my Beloved Son”, is now confused.
Have you ever been in that situation? Struggling to discern the will of God? Once it was clear, but now it is confusing!
Look at the reply of Jesus
At that very time Jesus cured many who had diseases, sicknesses and evil spirits, and gave sight to many who were blind. So he replied to the messengers, “Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
Luke 7: 19-23
In other words, Jesus was saying, John! Open your eyes and see around, open your ears and hear what’s going on, Open your mind and know what’s happening around.
Are you confused? Are you struggling to know the will of God? Open your eyes, open your ears, open your hearts. The Lord is speaking to you.
