Here is why you are unable to do the RIGHT thing you wanted to do
Sometimes, we know very well ‘what to do’, but still can’t! We know very well that it is WRONG to speak evil of another person, but somehow at that instant, we speak it out. We know very well that taking REVENGE is wrong, but somehow at that instant our natural person reacts that way!
This is what Paul says
I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate…..For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing (Romans 7: 15, 19)
What’s going wrong? Something is missing. Let’s find it out.
When we are about to do something wrong, our mind starts preaching to us
It’s WRONG! It’s WRONG! Don’t do it!
But our human natures tends to suppress it and force ourselves to do the wrong thing.
That’s purely human nature. Our human brain is wired to react that way. Even though we know it’s WRONG, we still end up doing it. Our conscience tries to convince us that it is wrong, but we try to suppress our conscience and force it to obey us.
There is a serious battle going on in our minds.
For a person who is led by God, he just can’t stop there. He goes beyond, seeking that ‘something’ which is missing. He just can’t keep doing that WRONG thing and continue as if nothing happened. His conscience starts pricking him to the core. (If you are in this category, you are blessed)
He knows very well that GOD is watching. He fears God more than everything else. He longs to get it fixed. He wants to get the right thing DONE no matter what! But sometimes he is unable!
That’s when we need something else.
Here is the missing factor
It’s nothing, but the GRACE of God
Let me explain
When you really KNOW the right thing to do, and you really don’t know HOW to do that right thing, that’s when you need the GRACE of God
What is GRACE? Commonly accepted definition is
UNMERITED DIVINE FAVOR (or something which we don’t deserve and God gives it freely or we can say, unmerited divine assistance)
Or in other words, grace is God helping us to do something which we can’t do by ourselves
God gives additional strength, courage, favor, privilege and the needed encouragement to do that right THING
This is what most people lack.
But He gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (James 4: 6)
Note the word ‘more grace’
In Amplified version, it says
But He gives us more and more grace (power of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully).
More and more GRACE
More and more POWER of the Holy Spirit, to meet this evil tendency and all others fully
But to whom?
To the humble-most!
Remember, GRACE is not cheap though it’s FREE. God gives this ‘grace’ to the humble people. It costs your HUMILITY. Yes, you need to let go off your EGO. You need to submit to GOD inorder to receive that abundant GRACE
It needs so much faith and trust in God
Many times we fail, just because we haven’t taken that extra step of faith to ask God for GRACE. We tend to handle it with our own strength. That’s why we fail.
If only we had asked grace, how much more GOD would have given it.
When GRACE comes, you will feel lot more lighter and God’s grace will enable you to do that RIGHT thing.
Next time, you are in a battle, ask God for GRACE. Will you? 🙂
Lord, please give me the grace to overcome this struggle
Lord, please give me the grace to forgive, love and to be quiet
Lord, please give me the grace to forget the past
Lord, please give me the grace to let go off my ego
Lord, please give me the grace to love my enemies
Lord, please give me the grace to pray for those who work against me
Lord, please give me the grace to make peace
Lord, please give me the grace to ___________________
Lord, please give me the grace to ___________________
(add your prayer points here…)
Let our mouth and hearts be filled with prayers for GRACE. Let me assure you that you will find yourselves winning the battle in your mind, and you will value GRACE more than anything else.
You will then know what it means to say, ‘It was by His grace that I did so and so…..’
Cheers!
