What does Jesus Christ expect us to be doing when He returns?
You know that the Lord’s coming is at hand. What will be the most probable thing you will be doing when the Lord returns?
Having fun, browsing, watching YouTube videos or watching porn/movies, making video trolls or sleeping, drinking, fighting, gossiping, or doing something useful for the Lord?
I remember, when we were children, our dad used to give us some assignments or something to study when he goes out for work. Sometimes he returns in between at an unexpected time to see what we are doing. One day, he parked his vehicle out in the road and came silently to our house to see what we were doing. We were watching TV that day and were caught, and you know the rest of the story 😛
What does the Lord expect us to be doing when He returns?
The Lord Jesus explains about this in a parable
The Lord said, “Who is the wise and trusted servant that the master trusts to give the other servants their food at the right time? When the master comes and finds the servant doing his work, the servant will be blessed. I tell you the truth, the master will choose that servant to take care of everything he owns. But suppose the servant thinks to himself, ‘My master will not come back soon,’ and he begins to beat the other servants, men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk. The master will come when that servant is not ready and is not expecting him. Then the master will cut him in pieces and send him away to be with the others who don’t obey. (Luke 18: 42-46)
When our Master Jesus Christ returns, He expects us to be doing what the Lord has asked us to do.
Once, Jesus was tired from his long trip, so he sat down beside the well. It was about twelve o’clock noon.
When a Samaritan woman came to the well to get some water, Jesus said to her, “Please give me a drink.” This happened while Jesus’ followers were in town buying some food. The conversation continued. She started to open up and Jesus was helping her with the issues of her life. Meanwhile, his followers came were begging him, “Teacher, eat something.” But Jesus answered, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.” (John 4)
Jesus was fully occupied with helping the broken hearted woman of Samaria. He was so involved with this work that he even forgot to drink water nor have his lunch.
Then Jesus said
My food is to do what the One who sent me wants me to do and to finish his work. (John 4: 34)
That’s what we are talking about: doing what the Lord wants us to do and to finish His work.
What is that one thing that you are so passionate about? Most probably, you will be doing that thing when the Lord returns!
Let our whole mind, heart, soul and body be focused on that one thing: To do what the Lord wants us to do
You are blessed if the Lord finds you doing that work when He returns.
