How the Blood of Jesus Christ gives us Boldness in God’s Presence

What is so special about the blood of Jesus Christ? Jesus Christ was crucified and his blood was shed on the cross. As we read, even the night he was betrayed, “his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground” at the garden of Gethsamane while he was praying with burden (Luke 22:44). Then while he was dead on the cross, a soldier pierced his body and the last few drops of blood were also shed on the cross (John 19:34). If we truly understand the significance of this blood shed, then we would be ever grateful to Jesus Christ, and our life will never be the same. In this post, I would like to share some thoughts on the blood of Jesus Christ

We were bought with the precious blood of Christ’s death

The Bible says,

You were bought with the precious blood of Christ’s death. He was a pure and perfect sacrificial Lamb.1 Peter 1:19 ERV

Why is the blood of Jesus Christ so precious? How did God purchase us with his blood. Bible says, We were all born as sinners. (And in sin did my mother conceive me Ps 51:5). For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23). The punishment for sin was death. (For the wages of sin is death Rom 6:23). When God created Adam and Eve, he said, “in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die”. But God himself made a way for escape.

For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul. (Lev 17:11)

What an amazing grace! In simple words, God said: I have given you the blood on the altar to purify you, making you right with the LORD. It is the blood, given in exchange for a life, that makes purification possible. So God instituted the Day of Atonement in Leviticus 16. The High priest kills a lamb and brings the blood to the most holy place of the temple of God. God accepts this sacrifice and their sins were forgiven.

Atonement is to be made once a year for all the sins of the Israelites. (Lev 16: 34)

What is meant by Atonement?

The Hebrew word used for atonement is kaphar which means “to cover over”. If an offense has been made, the one that has been offended can act as though the offense is covered over and unseen. This idea is expressed through the word of forgiveness. Atonement is an outward action that covers over the error.

So, God provided a way for atonement through the blood on the altar. This is a divine ritual instituted by God himself to make us right with God. He covers our sins with blood and deal with us as if we have not sinned. He forgives our sins through blood shed.

The Blood of Jesus Christ was shed for the forgiveness of our sins

Jesus came into this world for this purpose: to make the ultimate atonement for us by shedding his blood for us, so that we can achieve forgiveness. This sacrifice of Jesus is  the ultimate and final atonement, fulfilling the need for repeated sacrifices (Hebrews 9:12, 10:12). Now, through the blood of Jesus Christ we receive forgiveness of sins. Jesus himself explains this to the disciples

This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. (Matt 26: 28)

What a great deed of Christ! Let us thank the Lord for the great work He has done for us. We were once sinners. But by accepting Jesus’ sacrifice and having faith in Him, we are declared “righteous” in God’s sight (Romans 3:22, Galatians 2:16). How? When we confess our sins, the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sins, and God immediately sees as a righteous person! How wonderful plan of atonement.

The Bible says

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (I John 1:9)

This is a gift of God!

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Rom 6:23)

Now we can boldly come to the Presence of God

As a child of God, when you understand this truth, you have boldness in the presence of God. All you need to do, is to repent of your sins, confess it to God, and believe in the Name of Jesus, you are immediately made clean by God. If God makes you clean, you are a righteous person. Guilt, shame and fear are removed. You can boldly come to the most holy place, which is the presence of God. He accepts you as His child, in the same way He accepts Jesus Christ. What a great blessing.

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need. (Heb 4: 16)

Any time you can walk into God’s throne of grace! Wow! Not only you will receive forgiveness for your sins, but also MERCY, GRACE and HELP in time of your NEED!

But Satan doesn’t want you to believe this. The moment you believe this truth, you are set free from guilt. Satan can accuse you of your past sins but he cannot make you guilty because God has made you righteous.

Who would dare to accuse us, whom God has chosen? The Judge himself has declared us free from sin. Who is in a position to condemn? Only Christ, and Christ died for us, Christ rose for us, Christ reigns in power for us, Christ prays for us! (Rom 8:33 PHILLIPS translation)

A big Amen!

So what next?

Having read all these, I believe and pray that God open our eyes to understand this truth in greater depth. Now, we need to receive this forgiveness by faith.

God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith (Rom 3: 25)

Just believe and it will be yours!

All of us have committed sins: different kinds of wrong doings. But there is forgiveness available. You don’t have to break your head. If you know you have did a mistake, come to the presence of God and open up your heart before God and say, Lord Jesus I have done a mistake, I am sorry. Please forgive me. God will forgive you for the sake of Jesus Christ and for what He has done for you. God will help you not to make that mistake again. If you have done someone wrong, take the courage to go to that person and apologize (Matthew 5:23-24). This way, you can become a clean person and your worship will be accepted by God.

Let us pray!

Father, thank you for sending your Son Jesus Christ to die for my sins. Thank you Jesus for your precious blood that was shed on the cross for me. I repent of my sins. I confess. Please forgive me and make me clean. I am coming to your presence. Help me to enjoy this forgiveness. I love you. I worship you. Thank you Lord. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
