Give us today
Jesus taught us to pray to God for food: Give us today our daily bread

This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matt 6: 9- 13)

Even though God knows that we need food, we still are supposed to pray to God for food.
Why?
Jesus taught so!
Praying to God for food shows our dependence on God for our daily needs. We know that money brings food to the table. But we also need to understand that God is the source of our energy, strength, intelligence, ability to earn, and all that we have right now.
Jesus says: Do not worry about what you will eat or drink

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can anyone of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? (Matt 6: 25-27)

We look upon the Government for food and essential items. We read the newspaper to get updates on the stock of things. Those are all needed. The Government is doing its best, but can they guarantee to meet all our needs?
But God reminds us: Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
So do not worry, but trust your Heavenly Father. Your Heavenly Father knows how to feed you.
Therefore, even as we get the raw materials from the market, let us go beyond and acknowledge the real source of our daily food, God!
Let us humble ourselves, bow our heads, look upon God, and genuinely ask for our daily food. God hears our prayer. He will be your source of food, air, shelter, and water.
Even as we purchase the raw materials, let us keep thanking the Lord for His provision.

Let us pray

Father in Heaven. We thank you for providing all our needs. Give us our daily bread. Feed the poor and the hungry around the world. Help them that are suffering. Thank you, Father. We trust you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
