Isaiah’s Christmas Prophecy: 7 Names That Reveal Jesus’ Identity
Over 700 years before Jesus was born, the prophet Isaiah foretold His coming and described His divine nature and purpose.
In Isaiah 9:6, we read:
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor,
Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Let’s take a closer look at these seven attributes of Christ and what they mean for us today.
1. Jesus is the “Son of God”
From the beginning, Jesus existed as God Himself. Yet, out of immense love for humanity, He took on human form, born of a virgin named Mary. He became the Son of Man to live among us and offer salvation through His sacrificial death and resurrection.
2. “The government will be upon His shoulders.”
This means Jesus is the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is the ruler of all creation, sovereign and just. Surrendering to His rule brings order, purpose, and meaning to our lives.
3. His name is called “Wonderful”
A life with Jesus is a life of wonder. He transforms even the most ordinary moments into extraordinary blessings. Walking with Him brings beauty, joy, and fulfillment beyond measure.
4. Jesus is called “Counselor”
Are you seeking wisdom, clarity, or comfort? Jesus is the perfect guide. He provides direction for life’s uncertainties and offers counsel that brings peace to troubled hearts.
5. Jesus is called “Mighty God”
Do you believe in the one true God who reigns supreme? Jesus is the Mighty God, all-powerful and eternal, capable of doing what no one else can. He invites us to trust Him completely.
6. He is called “Everlasting Father”
Jesus isn’t just a temporary savior—He is our Everlasting Father. His love is eternal, and He gives life that lasts forever. Trusting Him means experiencing a relationship filled with unconditional love and care.
7. He is called “Prince of Peace”
When Jesus rules your heart, He brings peace—a peace that surpasses all understanding. No matter the challenges you face, His presence calms every storm and fills your soul with assurance.
Will You Open Your Heart to Jesus This Christmas?
This Christmas, take a moment to reflect on these seven attributes of Jesus. Will you surrender your heart to Him? When you do, He will be born in your life, bringing peace, joy, and a purpose that lasts forever.
