Instantly restore from Spiritual Dryness, Explore the presence of God

By spiritual dryness, I mean, a lack of feeling of spiritual atmosphere when we pray or read the Bible. An emptiness within! We feel that God is far away, and sometimes we even feel that our prayers are mere words, and doubt whether God is really listening. Yes, it happens to many of us.

Years ago, I asked this doubt to one of the elders in my church, “Uncle, what should we do when we feel a lack of God’s presence?”

His answer gave me a new perspective of the presence of God. He said, “Son, it is not about the so-called ‘feelings’. It about the faith in God even if we do not feel it”

God is listening even if do not feel it. God is present with us, even if we do not feel Him. That’s the fact. And when you start believing it, you start feeling it.

I found this as very practical.

There will be ups and downs in experiencing the presence of God, but if you are seriously not able to enjoy the presence of God at all, for a long time, then there should be some sort of sin which has creeped into your life, which is causing a distance between you and God. You can go through my previous article on ‘How to restore from spiritual dryness

In this post, let me give you 2 simple and practical tips on instantly restoring the presence of God.

Look straight in the eyes of God

Get yourself locked in a room. Kneel down on the floor, and simply look upwards, like a small child looking at his father’s face. Yes, look straight at the eyes of God. Here, you need some creative imagination, because you don’t literally see the face of God. He is invisible. So, imagine God is in front of you (Yes, He truly is).Child

Even Jesus used to pray by looking up into the heavens

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: “Father,….” (John 17: 1)

You can use these Bible verses and meditate upon these to help you visualize better

And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2: 6)

If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. (Col 3: 1-2)

You are seated in the heavenly place. Believe it! That means, you are with Christ in heaven, even as you are physically present in this earth. Believe it!

Jesus Christ is seated at the right of the Father God.

Now, you are sitting besides Christ, and Father is near you.

Are you able to visualize it? So you got the first point right

Beg for mercy

Yes, all you need is mercy!

We did not deserve the presence of God at all. We were unholy, sinful and totally away from the presence of God. It was the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, that has restored us back to the presence of God. Think about how all this happened in your tanlife. It was not your good works or your good life which made you worthy for the presence of God, but the good works of Jesus, and the mercy of God.

God’s presence is so valuable. Moses longed for it. It is so beautiful and amazing.

The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here (Exo: 33: 14-15)

Now, you have to remind yourself of that great mercy of God upon you. You can plead God for revealing more of His presence

As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a female slave look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he shows us his mercy. Ps 123: 2

You are now in your room, looking at the eyes of God, pleading for mercy.

Do you think, the Lord is cruel enough not to answer you?

He will definitely show mercy to you. If you have done anything wrong, God will forgive you and treat you as His own little child. Yes, you indeed is the lovely child of God! He loves you more, than you can ever imagine. Since you have expressed your great desire for the presence of God, He will definitely show it more to you, so that you can experience the presence of God, even in your spirit, mind and body.

By now, you must be in tears, enjoying the presence of God.

If you would like to sing a song, here is a beautiful one

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You’re the One that guides my heart
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
Where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me
Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You
So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
When I cannot stand I’ll fall on You

God bless you.

Amen. Yes He is faithful and just to listen to His children and to all who turn to Him. Let’s be always humble enough to echo and say “Lord, I need you!” Sometimes that’s the hardest thing to say. :)
