When we were staying in our rented house, I dreamt of a house of our own, so that I would have a separate room to study, read, and have my own quiet time with God. Finally God answered our prayers and gave a beautiful home, after shifting almost 7 consecutive rented houses for many years. It was a great dream coming true. Thank God!
But when I got my own study room, with all the basic facilities like a study table, bed, book-shelf, light etc, I found that I did not spend much time in reading or studying as I did before when I didn’t have all those facilities. This might be the case with many of us. When we don’t have enough, we dream more; but when we have everything in plenty, we tend to be less diligent!
We all have a long list of ‘If I had’! If I had a beautiful room, then I would have spent more time in studies! If I had a laptop on my own, then I would have worked more. If I had more money, then I would have helped my parents! If I had a DSLR camera, I would have learned photography; and so on.. My friend, you really don’t need everything in abundance to get started with great things like studying or singing or learning an art or helping someone. Start doing it with whatever little things you have right now!
It’s good to have a study room on your own, so that you can arrange all your books in your shelf, and neatly arrange the things in your room to give a good ambience for a pleasant studying experience. But at the same time, remember that, what we have at the moment, is more than sufficient to get started with whatever we dream of doing! We know that many renowned scientists and other people, who succeeded in their life or career or education, was not because of the abundant facilities they had, but because of their determination and hard work!
What am I trying to say? We need not wait for the ideal circumstances or the ideal opportunities to get started. This is the best time. This is the right opportunity. Grab it! Just get started with whatever you have right now. Other essential things may eventually follow.
This was Paul’s secret to success
I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Christ who gives me strength. Phil 4:12
When Paul writes this book, he was in prison. He wrote many books while he was under arrest. He didn’t wait for the perfect setting to pen down his thoughts. He used the available time, opportunity and trusted in God’s strength to write. He converted the prison room into a writing room. That’s the right attitude.
Bible teaches us that we need to learn to be content with whatever we have at the moment.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Heb 13: 5, 6
May God help us to overcome all the greed we have, and to give us the grace to be satisfied with whatever we have!
